Title: Ding dong! NaNoWriMo is dead.
Post by: Jamison on Mar 31, 2025, 09:59 PM
They officially posted that the organization is shutting down. I don't see any other way it could have ended. I'm just surprised it took this long.

If anybody wants to discuss the closure or reminisce about old times, feel free.

Well, I really enjoyed the community. All these bright-eyed writers, all with their stories to tell, trying to get everything just right. How long should my chapters be?, Can I use these song lyrics?, Should I put in a love triangle?

Met a lot of people who knew things I didn't, and they were almost always happy to share. The community was fun, sometimes outlandish, and everybody was waiting for midnight of November first to roll around.

I can pinpoint the exact moment that all changed for me. They hired Fridge, and right out of the box... well, fuck Fridge. Nothing was ever the same again.

I had hopes that we could get back to something good. They hired some new mods who mostly seemed like they'd do well. They talked about making changes and fixing the problems. But the powers that be--their self-styled HQ--never had any intentions of things being good again. To this day, I can't fathom what they were thinking.

And then enter Kilby. Ya know, I actually had a glimmer of hope. Until about Thanksgiving of 2023. I know NaNoWriMo was just a little non-profit, but fuck me. Between HQ and the Board, you couldn't find a more useless cadre of self-obsessed, doublethinking, poor-mouth boneheads.

So I'm glad I had the experiences I did, all the good times and even the bad times. Even the confounding ones and the infuriating ones. But I'm also glad that it's over. I'm glad that NaNoWriMo is dead.
