3. WriteTrack - https://writetrack.cloud
Free. Again, track multiple goals at once. You can only track by number of words written. You can weight certain days and it does the math to write more/less on weekdays vs weekends, etc. Create groups and see your friends' progress

Free. Not many frills. Track multiple projects and goals at once and track by pages, words, time, etc. You can run word sprints with your friends and keep up with their progress.

1. TrackBear - https://trackbear.app
Free. Track multiple projects and goals at a time. You can track by words, pages, time, etc. which is functionality NaNoWriMo lost in 2019. Create leaderboards with friends and groups where you can set community goals and challenges.

Announcements / How To Track Your Writing
Last post by SepiaAndDust - Sep 04, 2024, 03:50 PM
Sorry, y'all. I'm supposed to be coding an awesome word-tracking system for this site. The expected launch of the site was sometime next spring, but things got pushed up, and the system isn't ready. (Doesn't help that I'm the 3rd-worst coder in the world.)

But never fear! Until that is up and running, here are some great places to keep track of your writing.

Huge thanks to Dianne for compiling these! You can find her original post on Twitter here.

Rules & Moderation Issues / The Rules--Don't Be A Dick.
Last post by Jamison - Sep 04, 2024, 07:06 AM
So... the rules.

As you may have heard, we were still hashing stuff out when... well, I'm sure everybody's aware of what's been going on in the writing community. We were caught unawares like many others, so we don't have much in the way of an organized system of rules.

Don't be a dick pretty much covers it.

Profanity is fine, just don't over-do it.
Slurs are never fine.
Don't be a troll.
I know that a lot has been said during the run-up to this US presidential election, but ageist and ableist comments won't be tolerated here.
Respect other people.
Don't hawk your books--or, god forbid, your editing/publishing/book-doctoring services--in the forums or by private message. We'll have places set up for that later on.
Only human-generated material, whether text or image, is allowed on this site. Similarly, no explicit text or images are allowed.

Just don't be a dick.

Also, for legal reasons, only those 13 years old or older are allowed in our official spaces.

Personal Projects / What Are Personal Projects?
Last post by Jamison - Sep 04, 2024, 06:28 AM
Personal projects are any exkayendays that aren't official projects.

Announce the projects you're doing by yourself, find a group to join, or make your own group.

You'd say something like Looking for buddies for a 50K30Day involving werewolves and fae. Starting October 3. Would like 4 or 5 more people to join.

Then you can discuss your progress in that thread or take it to discourse or email if you want.

Official Projects / What Is The "Summer Of..." Eve...
Last post by Jamison - Sep 04, 2024, 04:22 AM
The Summer Of... event is a writing challenge that begins on the first day of summer and runs for exactly 90 days. The goal is to write 90,000 words in that time, so an average of 1,000 words per day. That makes the event a 90K90Day. The Summer Of... event is our main event.

So what are the three dots about? That's for personalizing. Romance writers might have a Summer of Love event, while erotica writers might have a Summer of Lust event, and cosmic horror writers might do Summer of Lovecraft.

Other ideas are Summer of Dragons (fantasy), Summer of Wormholes (science fiction), Summer of My Discontent (contemporary fiction), and Summer of Winter Is Coming (fan fiction).

These can be modified if you want to write more or less than 90,000 words.

So you might wind up with events named Summer of Vigorous Love (135,000 words) or Summer of Extreme Love (180,000 words) or Summer of Gentle Love (45,000 words). And that is absolutely great! Call it something fun.

And yes, different groups or individuals might use the same name. That's fine.

"Summer" is whenever the hottest season of the year happens. In the US, it begins on the summer solstice (June 20 for 2025). In Australia, I believe that summer starts on December 1 every year. Other countries will have other start dates.

Can you have Winter Of..., Spring Of..., or Autumn Of... events? Absolutely! They're not official events, though.

Official Projects / What Are The "Big Mama" And "L...
Last post by Jamison - Sep 04, 2024, 03:30 AM
The Little Mama editing challenge is an attempt to edit 80,000 words in a month.

The Big Mama editing challenge is an attempt to edit one million words in a year.

How does it work? Count the number of words in the manuscript once you've finished editing it.

You can give the same manuscript any number of passes. Polish it until it shines!

If you edit a 80,000 word manuscript so that it becomes a 100,000 word manuscript, you count it as 100,000 words. Then if you give it another pass, cutting it a bit to 90,000 words, you add the 90,000, for a total of 190,000 words.

If you don't finish the whole manuscript, count the words you did edit.
